5K Run

Hundreds of people flocked to the Guasti Villa in Ontario to run and walk to bring nutrients to orphans, children with disabilities and children with life-threatening illnesses.

Ontario Aglow Community Lighthouse held its fourth annual competitive 5k race and walk Feb. 11, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to MannaRelief, a organization that provides nutritional enhancement products to children at risk of being malnourished.

The East Valley Young Marines presented the Flag with the Color Guard and the National Anthem was sung. Ontario Mayor Paul Leon said a prayer before sounding the gun to start the race. It was a very impressive site to behold the Young Marines running in cadence the entire length of the race.

Gabrielle Wheeler, 7, was the first child sponsored through proceeds from the first run-walk. Gabrielle sat in her stroller at this year's event as her mother explained how the glyconutrients have changed their lives.

After sharing their story, Wheeler pushed Gabrielle in a stroller along the race course that led participants along Guasti Road, Haven Avenue, Airport Drive and Archibald Avenue. Fifteen minutes and 19 seconds after the race began, Jordan Horn of Alta Loma crossed the finish line to take first place. Horn, 21, runs competitively for Cal State Fullerton. He said he found out about the race and felt it was a worthy cause so he decided to participate.

The event was hosted and co-sponsored by Saffron's at Guasti Villa and the City of Ontario. Participants enjoyed live music by the NSpirit Band in front of the Guasti Mansion  when the race concluded. Radio station 93.1 Jack FM also provided music and giveaways to the 300 participants and spectators.

Back in 1775
My Marine Corps came alive
First there came the color blue,
to show the world that we are true
Next there came the color red,
to show the world the blood we shed
Finally there came the color green,
to show the world that we are mean

article written by PFC James Bronaugh

"Pain is weakness leaving the body". During the crucible a lot of weakness left my body!  The crucible was one of the toughest things I have ever accomplished.  Being thrashed over and over, the squad missions, running, jumping, yelling, screaming, doing anything but resting.  During the weekend of the crucible we got about 3 hours of sleep and in the middle of our sleep we had a fire drill which consisted of running, jumping and being thrashed.  All in all, the crucible made me stronger in mind and body.  Though if given the chance to do it again, I definitely would NOT!!!!

I Am A Recruit! by Taylor Bronaugh, age 8.
I am a recruit because I want to be a PFC. I want to be a Marine. I want to fight for peace. I am going to fight for my country, my family, my people. I mostly want to fight for my freedom. I am afraid of getting yelled at. I like to do the capture the grenade. I like helping the American Legion. Someday I want to be like Sgt Ramirez and Mr. Eberly.

A note of praise from Jim Nonnemacher
Adjutant, Highland Post 421. January, 2006

I just returned from the Graduation Ceremony for Recruit Platoon 0106 and I must say that I was really impressed. Impressed by the ceremony, by the progam, the leadership, and most of all by the 'new' Young Marines. You can rest assured that as long as I have any type of influence with the Officers and members of Highland American Legion Post 421 that, we will continue to support the YM in every way we can. I was truly impressed with the job Jamie, Mark, and the rest of the crew are doing, and I can see why they are so successful.

Now accepting submissions for April.
